Advertisement in the newspaper Badische Presse, no. 539, November 14, 1907 for performances in the Eintracht-Hall in the city center of Karlsruhe. The Weltkinematograph was a film production company from Freiburg / Breisgau that mainly produced documentary films and set up a whole chain of cinemas. The company’s cinema, which was set up at the beginning of 1908 and was soon called “Welt-Kino”, was located at Kaiserstraße 133, right next to the Little Church.

Advertisement of the Residenztheater in the newspaper Badische Presse, no 524, November 18, 1919. The Residenztheater was the first building that was planned as a cinema when it was built and opened in December 1908. The first owner was the former court baker Otto Alban Kasper. He had already gained his first experience in the hotly contested cinema branch with a shop cinema that opened in 1907.
The advertised film “Morphine” is considered lost. Please note: the information about the scriptwriters Julius Urgiß and Max Jungk was obviously more important than the name of the director. Julius Urgiß was the editor of the first German film magazine “Der Kinematograph”. Since there was still no own film criticism in the Karlsruhe daily newspapers in 1919, quotations were made in detail from Berlin or Munich newspapers – or, as here, from the specialist magazine “Der Film”. That was the way it was in the residence seat. …
